IECQ Environmentally conscious design
(ecodesign) to IEC 62430
The IECQ ecodesign certification refers to the systematic integration of environmental considerations into the design and development of products, services, and systems. It seeks to minimize negative environmental impacts and promote sustainability throughout a product's life cycle, from raw material extraction to end-of-life management. This includes considering factors such as energy efficiency, resource use, waste reduction, and toxicity. The goal of ecodesign in the electronics industry is to create products that are both functional and environmentally responsible.
The IECQ ecodesign certification service can assist the industry in quantifying the environmental impacts of a product, service or process while keeping a product’s quality level according to its ideal usage.
The goal is to anticipate and minimize negative environmental impacts associated with the manufacturing of products.
How is this done?
With the development of the international standard IEC 62430, IECQ certification for ecodesign is providing an internationally “standardized” way of providing independent third-party assurance of a claim by an organization that their products meet the requirements of IEC 62430.
IEC 62430 provides a structured approach to ecodesign, including methodologies for identifying and evaluating the environmental impacts of a product, as well as guidelines for integrating ecodesign into the product development process. The standard also provides a framework for establishing ecodesign requirements to minimize their products' adverse environmental impacts and communicate environmental information to stakeholders.
The IECQ (peer-assessed) conformity assessment bodies (CBs) for ecodesign conduct initial and ongoing comprehensive assessments to confirm that the organization complies with the requirements of IEC 62430. An IECQ certificate of conformity is then issued for environmentally conscious design (ecodesign) if IEC 62430 requirements are met.
